Superintendent Brasil's Message for the end of the 2020-21 School Year

May 21, 2021

Dear Keyes Parents, Staff, and Community,

The end of the school year is upon us.  It has been quite the year, and I wish to thank you all for your support and collaboration this past year during stressful times of uncertainty.   We are at the end of the school year and find ourselves with the opportunity to celebrate our students and staff's success and hard work.  Our celebrations will be semi-traditional, but far better than what we were unable to do a year ago.

I congratulate all of our Keyes To Learning Charter graduates from both eighth grade and our high school.  I also congratulate the graduates of our Spratling Middle School.  I am also very proud of the accomplishments of our pre-school students, kindergarten students, and Head Start students. They are all to be congratulated for their hard work.  I also wish to thank and applaud the hard work of our staff as they all support our students.

As we look to the coming school year of 2021-2022, I would like to share that we plan to begin and end the school year with in-person learning for all students.   The plan is to be fully open to all grades and all programs, including ASES, academic supports, breakfast and lunch meals, and students engaged in extra-curricular activities, including athletics.

The district is continuously working on-site resources and opportunities to serve the needs of our students best.  We know that in-person instruction is much more effective and best for the well-being of all students and staff.  I am basing our plan for full in-person instruction and opening of the school year on the information and guidance we have at this moment from our County and State Health Departments.   The particulars remain to be finalized, but we anticipate our students and families looking forward to a return to educational normalcy now that Senate Bill 98 will sunset distance learning on June 30, 2021.

Please keep in mind that as a district, we operate under the guidance of State and Federal Agencies, which can change, but for now, I remain optimistic for the new year. I will continue to update you throughout the summer of any further specific details. For now, I wish you all a safe, restful, and positive summer break.  I know our students and staff have earned it.

Sincerely,

Helio Brasil
