This week students are working on iReady Reading Diagnostic. Students will have six class days to complete 100% of the diagnostic. Therefore, each day students will need to complete 17% of their diagnostic, so this week students should have 51% of his/her diagnostic completed.

This assignment is for extra credit. Since we have been learning about different types of poetry students may choose from limerick, tanka, cinquain, or diamante to create their very own poem. Students MUST follow the format of the chosen poetry type, they MUST have an illustration (picture) with their poem, and they MUST turn it in by the due date. Students will be creative in becoming an author of their very own poem!

Students will now become the author of his/her own poetry. Students will write they following types of poetry: an acrostic poem and type on slide 24, they will write a Haiku and type on slide 25, and students will write a free verse poem and type on slide 28. Along with the poems on these slides students will need to add clip art, images ,or drawings to support the theme of his/her poems. All poems with illustrations are due Monday, October 19 by 9:00 am.

For this assignment, students will download the lyrics to a song they like and identify the different types of figurative language used in the song. Once the identify the figurative language they will dissect the meaning of the figurative language in the song. Students will use slides 36 and 37, in their Poetry INB, to identify and dissect the the lyrics for their song of choice.

Students are to use the self created part of speech chart to complete a 1 page story. The font size may be 12 or 14 and the style may be times new roman, comic sans, or arial. The story must fill up one page. Remember stories have a beginning, middle, and an end.

Today you will open a new google doc and insert a table with 8 columns and 2 rows. The title for each column will be one of the parts of speech: noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, conjunction, interjection, preposition. Then you will list 5 words for each column, each part of speech. Be creative with your words because you will be using these words later in the week for an assignment.
